How does a thermodynamic steam trap work
WebJun 18, 2009 · Thermostatic trap, also known as the temperature trap uses expansion of a bimetallic strip, an oil filled element or a flexible below to activate a valve. In an oil filled element type steam trap ( as shown in the figure), the element A expands as the temperature of the condensate rises. The expansion of element A leads to the closing of valve D. WebThermodynamic steam trap: This basic principle of working of this trap is the change in velocity of fluids. When steam enters, its static pressure on the disc forces the disc against the trap valve seat. This static pressure then tends to reduce as steam starts to get converted into condensate and allows to open the disc to discharge condensate.

WebThe trap seizes in a fixed position and will either pass steam or condensate depending on the rate of condensation. The fixed orifice device is least suited to dirty conditions. The hole is inherently small and frequently blocks. Enlarging the hole (as is sometimes done in desperation) destroys the concept of sizing on a fixed orifice. WebThe Thermodynamic Trap should be installed in a horizontal plane such that disc movement happens only in vertically up and down directions. The horizontal mainline should be provided with proper collecting pocket as provided by equal Tee should end with a drip leg and at the end of the drip leg Thermodynamic Trap should be fitted.

WebDec 20, 2024 · Thermodynamic steam traps use the difference in density between steam and water to open and close a valve. When steam enters the chamber, it displaces the lighter water molecules, causing them to rise and close a valve at the top. This traps the condensed water on one side while allowing only steam to escape through an exit valve on the other … WebSep 7, 2024 · How Does A Thermostatic Steam Trap Work? Thermostatic traps are based on the balance of steam pressure and the internal pressure of the thermostatic membrane capsule, which is filled with a special liquid whose saturation temperature is slightly lower than that of steam at any pressure.
